Ready, Set... Go!

Welcome Back 8th and 9th Grade Parents and Students!
We are off and running on a new school year here at EHS.  Our new home is buzzing (literally due to equipment) with activity.  The building renovation is going well and on track for our Spring completion date.  Our portion of the building (A-section) has received new windows and lockers up to date and will begin it's renovation sometime in November.  At that time, we will need to relocate our 8th grade classrooms to the other side of A-section until their rooms are finished.  This will all be done as smoothly as possible, with minimal disruption and inconvenience.  We will keep the students informed to reduce confusion.
I will be holding class meetings with the 8th and 9th Grades on Wednesday, September 7th in the morning to review all of our procedures, rules, construction updates, new attendance policy, etc.  Any questions the students may have, I will answer at that time.  This will help put them at ease in their transition to start the new year.
Our Open House is being held tonight from 6-7:30 p.m.  I hope to see a great turnout to come meet many teachers, locate classes, and get student locker assignments and combinations.  Remember, the renovation is in progress and will continue until approximately spring break.  We will continue to do our best to keep our students in one central location, monitored by myself and Pam Hansen our new 8th/9th Grade Secretary at all times, while ensuring quality learning under the guidance of our staff.
Homecoming week will be held September 19th- 23rd.  Ninth grade students, this is an exciting time for you.  You are encouraged to take part in the many activities going on such as creating your class banner, powderpuff football, dress up days, pep assembly, the football game and of course the dance on Saturday night.  Remember, be smart, respectful, and have fun!  Eighth grade students, we also allow you a little fun.  While you are not high schoolers yet, we do invite you to create a class banner for your hallway, feel free to participate in dress up days, build a class float (if a parent can supervise and provide an separate location to build), and come to the game of course to cheer on our eskymos!  Eighth grade students are not permitted to attend high school dances, therefore cannot attend the Homecoming Dance.
Lastly, a quick reminder that we have an 8th/9th grade Parent/Teacher Organization that has been up and running since last year and needs your help.  They have been providing for teacher requests, conducting a Spirit clothing sale, providing ice cream for our first day lunch, and will be having a Fall Fiesta dinner on November 10th during Parent Teacher Conferences to help raise money for the many needs of our students.  This is a great organization to join to become part of your child's EHS experience.  This PTO group meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. in the Library.  All are welcome.
We look forward to an exciting 2011-12 school year!  See you Tuesday the 6th.
